Have you tried booting in safe mode? Sounds like the same problem I had; my Himem file was deleted (by Windows Washer) I had to formatt.. I ended up formatting like 5-6 times before I figured out the culpritt.

How old is the PC and what is it?

it is a Gateway GT5014, Ive had it for 2 or 3 years, however, about 3 or 4 months ago I reformated it, and it has been running perfectly until today, I did not install any extra software on it recently.

I did buy 2 Megs of ram extra for it recently but it ran fine for months after that.

Last time I booted it up I did plug in an extarnal hard drive via USB.

there are no beeps or sounds or anything, I also have a wireless desktop and mouse, but the USB never seems to get power because I never see any green lights on the little remote or the keyboard or mouse.

Its not the end of the world, but in this day and age when you can buy new PC's for about 399 it seems silly to try and have old ones repaired.

My biggest damn problem is some contest files for some current contests, re-creating them from scratch would be a real nightmare.

I have been having the same problem with my Gateway Desktop. Beeps and shit and looks like it's launching Windows, then it starts the boot process all over again.

I dont even get that far, fan turns on immediatly, but wont even come close to launching windows....

i did verify that there were no CD's in either of the CD drives.

Funny, my computer just started doing the same thing after adding memory. I am taking mine in for service, guy thinks its a bad memory stick.

SS - when you boot up, do you get to the BIOS screen? Hit F10 to manually reboot Windows. It will take a few minutes. A screen should come up with 3-4 options. These are the drive options. Just hit enter (you want the top option, move with arrow key). Windows should come up.

SS, information for future use while meanwhile wishing you best to get your current system back in order

About once a week, I send myself emails to my yahoo account with a couple of my most important sports capping files Attached.

They will sit safe on the Yahoo server for an indefinite amount of time. I suppose there might be a cutoff point, but as I said I renew them about once a week and just delete the previous mails.

System Does Not Boot up at First Integration

2x2 or 2x4 Power Connector Not Plugged In
If the power supply cable with the 2x2 connector or 2x4 connector (depending on your desktop board), is not plugged into the 12V processor core voltage connector located near the processor socket, the system will not boot up. You will see lights onboard and on the chassis front panel and the processor fan will spin, but nothing will appear on the monitor. See figures below for cable placement.

or

Processor Issues
No boot situations can be caused by any of the following.

If you have installed an incompatible processor, the system will not boot. Ensure the selected processor model is correct for your desktop board. Some processors require specific desktop board versions and BIOS revisions. To find the supported processor list for your board, go to Supported Processors. If the processor is compatible, try removing and reinstalling the processor to ensure it is installed correctly.

If the processor overheats, the system may not boot or may shut down shortly after booting.

Make sure the fans on the processor are connected properly and running.
Make sure that the thermal interface material or the thermal grease is applied to the processor properly.
Make sure that the power supply fan is running properly and any other external case fans are running properly.
Make sure that the air intakes for the external fans are unobstructed and have at least several inches away from walls and other items

Unplug the usb hard drive and open up case and make sure the memory is seated in good. I would take them in and out one time if they are easy to get to.

Get the hammer and hit it untill it works or you have to buy a new one. Trust me on this it works everytime. Can even be done by Canadains too.

Yes, but they need to use an American made hammer

yeah no beep is usually a hardware issue, and i have a hunch its processor related.

Even if your RAM isnt seated properly it will beep at you to tell you this.

Blow in it like when you used to have to do that to Nintendo games.

Guys, I got er back!!! :dancefool

I unplugged the PC, and I pushed every card to make sure it was securely pushed in, I then took out the new ram that I had bought, and re-placed it in. Plugged it back in and it worked.

I think it had to do with the ram not being placed in properly or something like that.
